For those sites associated with recognized environmental conditions, and
determined by testing to be impacted with chemicals or constituents
regulated under certain
state and/or federal programs, we offer services designed to manage these sites
through clean-up
or administrative closure. Our staff is trained and
experienced in keeping up with frequently changing administrative/legislative program requirements
as well as hydrology/hydrogeology,
engineering technology, process design, computer-based modeling,
and remediation technologies.
-
Barge Maintenance Facility (Houston Ship Channel, Channelview, Texas)
As a result of former disposal of waste paint and asbestos upon this industrial property by site employees, TGE successfully remediated these concerns to the satisfaction of the TCEQ and under their review. Following extensive trenching and excavation efforts, TGE determined the location, volume, and character of the waste, worked with the regulatory authority to evaluate closure options, and remediated all regulated waste from the site by excavation and off-site disposal.
-
Steel Plant and Industrial Coatings Operation
(Houston, Texas/Ship Channel)
Due to expansion, this former 50+ acre industrial plant was
purchased to off-load imported steel and manufacture raw
coat material for sale. As a result of re-development, much of the site suffered compressor
oil leaks and extensive PCBs contamination. TGE worked with the USEPA
self-implementation program for purposes of delineating
shallow soil impact and presented an APAR to the TCEQ
for review and comment. This facility will require remediation
to meet goals of the VCP/TCEQ program, the design of which
is pending.
-
Industrial Multi Use 1900's Warehouse (Houston, Texas)
In the true sense of “brownfield” redevelopment,
TGE investigated, characterized
and remediated this multi-use, inner-city industrial warehouse
property following preliminary determination by others that
the site was impacted by organic and inorganic constituents.
TGE installed a series of soil borings and groundwater monitoring
wells, closed abandoned automobile and metal manufacturing/plating
facility equipment (lifts, tanks and sumps/grit traps),
and removed/excavated shallow impacted soil. TGE characterized/delineated
sub-surface impacted soils and shallow groundwater under
state programs. Corrective action at this property
involved asbestos abatement, demolition of certain site
structures, and closure of the site under risk-based corrective
action (and deed restriction of this property) for industrial
use with engineering controls.
-
Former Quarry/Landfill/Steel Plant - Brownfield/Commercial
Re-Development (Miami, Florida)
During re-development of a master-planned, 100 acre, Class
A+ project, TGE identified areas
of impact to the environment (including petroleum and solvent
impacted soil), tested associated areas of concern via the
installation of monitor wells/soil borings, and removed (by
excavation) impacted media prior to re-development of this
site for commercial use. TGE worked closely with the state
regulatory agency to meet project objectives and continued
to monitor groundwater until final closure.
-
Solvent Manufacturing Facilities (Houston, Texas)
TGE became involved with this client when it outgrew one
facility, associated with known solvent impact,
and opted to purchase a second plant with existing (although
unknown) contamination. Following investigation and
eventual purchase of the alternate site, TGE took both
facilities through investigation, characterization
and remediation phases within associated state programs.
Both sites were impacted with uncommon constituents of concern which required
unique discussions with the state regarding clean-up values
in order to meet closure. Both sites are currently in the VCP
program and will be closed under “risk”/administrative
means.
-
National Banking Institutions (Houston,
Texas)
During recent bank “branching” projects, TGE
worked extensively with a number of financial institutions
to develop more than 10 branch banks upon former gasoline
service stations, dry cleaning facilities and auto repair
garages within busy metropolitan areas. Working within
state and federal programs, the staff of TGE designed
and operated remediation systems beneath branch banks and
included engineering controls (such as liners) to reduce
risk of possible vapor infiltration into these buildings.
These re-development projects promoted re-use of real
property which would have otherwise been abandoned.
-
Former Cattle Rendering Plant (Abilene, Texas)
Following comprehensive assessment of this 20+ acre facility and placement of a series of groundwater monitoring
wells to various depths so as to delineate the
limits of petroleum and solvent impact, TGE managed
this project to near closure via the state PST and VCP programs
under natural attenuation monitoring following product recovery.
The project is under final review by the state and will
require closure of two industrial supply wells near the
subject property in order to meet desired closure criteria.
-
Former Industrial Cleaning/Barge Maintenance Facility
(Port Arthur, Texas)
Following industrial use of this facility over
a period of 50+ years and coupled with accidental discharge
of sludge waste upon the ground surface by others hired
to clean up the site following shut down,
TGE became involved in site efforts designed to comply with
a TCEQ agreed order. As such, TGE completed extensive soil
characterization by conducting a series of soil borings
for delineation purposes and performed remediation (by
removal) of impacted soil and wastes from the site. This
project is pending final closure and successful completion,
per TCEQ program requirements.
-
Industrial Steel Manufacturing Facility (Houston,
Texas)
Following site characterization via soil and groundwater
assessment, this property was subject to remediation
of surface and subsurface soil via the TCEQ VCP program.
TGE successfully identified, calculated and negotiated
certain background concentrations for inorganic
compounds of concern and removing select areas of soil impacted
by organic constituents (solvent and petroleum hydrocarbons)
from the property. Areas of the site formerly
affected were allowed to be re-developed and utilized without
restriction.
-
Plastics Manufacturing Facility (Southeast Texas)
Following issuance of fines and penalties for wastewater
and storm water discharge of regulated constituents to state waters, TGE conducted environmental
efforts designed to characterize and remove wastes generated
as a result of site activity. This work was conducted in
concert with compliance efforts and permitting for this
industrial facility.
-
Various Automobile Dealerships and Auto Maintenance
Facilities
With TGE’s work in representing automobile dealerships,
needs for remediation of underground storage tank
concerns as well as waste management areas (such as sumps, oil/water
separators, underground lifts and maintenance garages) have
routinely arisen. This work has been an outgrowth
of due diligence projects, site closures and removal of
regulated materials and wastes to maintain compliance with
state and federal programs. TGE recently began several
projects within the TCEQ TRRP program throughout Texas.
-
Former Chemical Manufacturing Facility (Houston,
Texas)
TGE assisted in addressing surficial/compliance-oriented
concerns related to spills and releases of regulated constituents
to the environment (ditches, surface soils, etc). Following
characterization (testing) of such spills and materials,
TGE instituted appropriate means of removal and off-site disposal
to the satisfaction of both state regulators and
the client.
-
Plastics Manufacturing Facility (Reno, Nevada)
Due to the purchase of a “pre-contaminated
facility”, TGE evaluated and managed
remediation efforts related to this chlorinated solvent-impacted
plastics manufacturing facility. Current efforts involve
ongoing operations and maintenance of the treatment system,
periodic reporting to the local/state authority and communication
of this information to client for consideration of closure.
-
Numerous Commercial and Industrial
Petroleum Storage Tank Facilities (Throughout Texas, Oklahoma,
Florida and Other Areas)
For various petroleum storage tank owners and operators,
and often following PST compliance efforts, TGE conducted numerous site characterization
and clean-up (remediation) projects which achieved
closure under state programs. These projects involved
premeditation efforts ranging from minimal soil removal following
tank retrofit to comprehensive design and system installation
for removal of product.
-
Former Warehouse Distribution And Grocery Facility (Beaumont, Texas)
TGE investigated subsurface conditions at
this abandoned warehouse prior to purchase of the facility. Following installation of a series of monitoring
wells and soil borings, it was determined that a large hydrocarbon
plume and free-phased product exists which migrated
onto adjacent properties, including the interstate right-of-way.
TGE is currently involved in removal of measurable product
and closing this site through the state PST program with
natural attenuation and ground water monitoring.
